Q.2 Digital literacy and Information Fluency
Ask: What are the ground-breaking archaeological findings of Homo Naledi by Professor Lee Berger from Wits University?
Acquire: I will use the following article: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/06/27/lee-berger-digs-for-bones-and-glory
Analyse: In September 2013, two amateur cavers by the names of Steve Tucker and Rick Hunter went cave diving and came upon an unexpected discovery which they knew paleoanthropologist Lee Berger would be very eager to see. Many fossil's were discovered in South Africa since the 19th century when prospectors begin blasting for lime which is used to actually refine gold. The area surrounding this cave was named the Cradle of Humankind because many skeletal remains of our ancestors were discovered there. But Berger was the first paleoanthropologist to actually search systematically underground. Berger arranged a conference meeting at the Cradle of Humankind. Many people started confusing Berger's love for science with the desire to become famous, especially after he arranged the press conference. Berger was different than other paleoanthropologist's and shared his data and fossil discoveries with the outside world. After many researches and 15 more discoveries, Berger also discovered the remains of the fossils, the Homo Naledi which along with the other fossils he shared once again, even some of it digitally. Berger's current title at Wit's is Research Professor in Human Evolution and Public Understanding of Science. He also gives 100's of talks a year. Without need, Berger became very popular in the world of fossil discovery.
Apply: With the knowledge of all the research above and the information discovered, I am now more equip to recognize and be able to understand what fossils are and how they are discovered. If I should hear about fossils, see them anywhere I would know how to deal with it. Also in Museums, I would know which fossils are which and also have a background knowledge of it.
Assess: All that are stated above was thoroughly researched by myself and was made evident while analyzing the research I found by actually reading through it.
